Thomas played at Curtis Senior High School and South School in Washington. As a junior he averaged over 30 points a game. Thomas then played college basketball at the University of Washington. In 2009 he was selected to the All-Pac-10 Second Team and to the All-Pac-10 First Team in 2010 and 2011. In both 2010 and 2011 he was named the Pac-10 Tournament MVP and in 2011 he received AP All-American Honorable Mention. He participated in the documentary Road To The NBA: The Isaiah Thomas Story.
