Governor Sakaja faces backlash for using President Rutos name to justify ethnic discrimination in

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been accused of using President William Ruto’s name to justify ethnic discrimination in the appointments of City Hall officials.

Sources claim that Sakaja is targeting senior officers from the Luo community and replacing them with his cronies.

According to trusted insiders, the real motive behind the calls is said to be the dissatisfaction of Sakaja’s Chief of Staff, David Njoroge, with the principled stance of the inspectorate officers.

Njoroge is reportedly unhappy with Tony Kimani, the Chief Officer for Security and Compliance, who is a devout Christian and refuses to take bribes or collect money for Njoroge and his associates.

Kimani is also said to be a professional and competent officer who has been cracking down on the criminal gangs that have been harassing hawkers and traders in the city.

Another victim of Sakaja’s alleged ethnic purge is Benjamin Omondi, the Chief Officer for Education and Social Services, who is the senior most Luo in the county government.

Sources say that ODM leader Raila Odinga has intervened and asked Sakaja to spare Omondi, but the governor has ignored his plea and instead appointed Eva Wairiuko, a junior and inexperienced officer, to act as the Chief Officer.

Dissenting voices within City Hall have expressed that Sakaja’s actions are not only unfair and discriminatory, but also detrimental to the service delivery and development of the city.

They are calling on the governor to respect the diversity and professionalism of the county staff and to stop using Ruto’s name to cover up his own agenda.
